The Cedar Valley committees and activities seek adult volunteers. Staff at Cedar Valley already participate in these and would like to welcome parent and community volunteers to help on these committees as well. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the school office by email or call 253.373.7649. All volunteers are required to be fingerprinted before they will be allowed to work in the school or to go on field trips. This procedure has been implemented district wide to further ensure the safety of our children while they are at school. Fingerprinting will be available at both Open House/Curriculum Nights.
ASB-Associated Student Body-Student CouncilThe ASB is advised by 5th grade teacher, Mr. Lapp. Officers are elected each year. A representative and an alternate representative are also elected from each classroom. The ASB meets once a month during the school day. Volunteers can come to meetings or help with the collection of Box Tops for Education or help with the annual fundraiser. Back to the top All School BarbecueWe have an All School Barbecue in the fall each school year. We need volunteers to help make it possible. Volunteers may need to do some planning before the barbecue and help with set up, serving food and clean up on that day. Back to the top ding tech support would be welcome. CopyingVolunteers are needed for copying from mid-August through June. This would be almost like volunteering in you child's classroom, except that you would be helping many teachers. Teachers would put things in the office that they need copied and you would come in on a regularly-scheduled basis, at your convenience, to work. Back to the top Cheetah "Stuffer"Cheetah "Stuffer" would help a teacher on Thursday mornings, throughout the school year, with stuffing the student, Cheetah -messenger envelopes that go home with students each Thursday. Citizenship / Honor Roll RecognitionThis activity takes place in November, March and June. Responsibilities include assembling and maintaining the bulletin board in the hallway, recording and keeping records throughout the school year, inventorying certificates, pins and seals for ordering purposes, and helping the end-of-the-year awards assembly. This committee requires quite a bit of initial setup time, but then just two more times during the year (March and June).
Grandpersons' WeekThis takes place the third week of October. You would work with a staff member to organize and prepare for this special week. Activities include designing/arranging for a picture backboard, scheduling volunteers to take pictures, greet "special people" as they arrive, and doing other coordinating activities as needed.
Math/Fact QuizzersThis would entail coming in sometime during the school day and quizzing 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders on their math facts (mostly multiplication and division). Back to the top Memory BookSeptember through March volunteers are needed to work with staff to produce our school's memory book. This includes taking candid photographs of class activities, school programs, students, etc., throughout the school year. Light typing, proofreading, and layout are involved. The book is laid out following the publisher's guidelines to keep the cost down. Back to the top Office HelperVolunteers will work with office staff to make copies, counting and typing certificates. This would be an on-call type of volunteering. Some work could be done at home and returned to the school the next day. PatrolVolunteers would help in the mornings and after school by making sure the students are crossing at the cross walk, administering student "tickets", and making sure student patrols are waiting for an opening in traffic before allowing students to cross. Volunteers would help train students in procedures and attend & help with the patrol picnic in June. Back to the top Pride PatrolThis entails distributing buckets and gloves once a week to children before their afternoon recess and supervising them during the clean up in front of the school and on the back hill during their lunch recess. A student orientation would need to be given at the beginning. Back to the top Salmon Fish TankWe have a salmon tank every year so that the students can see the life cycle of salmon. Grade levels take walking, field trips to Jenkins Creek every year to release the salmon. Volunteers would be trained in cleaning the tank. This could be done at a regularly scheduled time available to the volunteer. Student ManagementThis committee considers issues of importance related to the management of students and their discipline. It has evolved much in the past years as district and state mandates dictate. We have started to develop a highly cohesive and consistent building-wide plan. This group meets at least once a month, September through June. TechnologyThis committee meets every month during the school year. This group helps direct the growth of technology in the building in coordination with the technology specialist, Mrs. Laik.
