The Daniel Elementary community will access, manipulate, integrate, and communicate information within, and beyond, the school setting.
The Daniel Elementary technology plan and implementation strategies will be aligned with national, state, and district plans as stated in ESHB 1209, Raising Standards (The Commission on Student Learning), Strategic Plan (Kent Schools), and the Daniel Elementary school mission.
The Daniel Elementary technology plan will allow for student, staff, and community access. This plan identifies two major components to the access outcome. They are the physical and knowledge base components.
The Physical component includes access to hardware, software, appropriate networks, and new technologies.
We increased access at Daniel
by:
- Altering the computer lab schedule to
include more open times for classes to sign up.
- Continuing with the Tech
Team (student tech assistant) program.
The Knowledge base component includes a specific plan for training to maximize the use of technology by the Daniel community.
Some of the areas we are working on at
Daniel include:
-
Community
Computers at the Family Learning Center
- Student

The Daniel Elementary technology plan will secure a budget for technology training, allow for a range of training opportunities and levels, and include integration of technology into the curriculum.

The Daniel Elementary technology plan will facilitate the integration of technology into the curriculum and school administration. Technology will be a part of daily student learning. View Student Projects to see examples of this integration.
The Daniel community will have support in its effort to integrate technology into curriculum and daily life. Our technology specialist and our student Tech Team are a large part of this support system. This technology support falls into three categories. They are:
This role includes setup of hardware, installation of software, software and hardware maintenance, network management, upgrades, management of inventory database, and contact/coordination of district resources to aid in the above maintenance issues.
This role is designed to support the integration of technology into the curriculum. This includes assistance in lesson design, staff development, assessment, modeling, sharing of ideas, and classroom support: infusion of multimedia, gathering of resources that utilize technology, and user-level technical support (i.e. hook-ups, basic operation).
This role includes communication with staff, community, and district-level personnel, facilitation of the implementation process as described in this plan, ongoing lobbying for financial support of the outcomes listed, keeper of the technology vision, and pursuit/location of grants that support our goals and outcomes.
The Daniel Elementary technology plan will address the issue of equity by providing availability, adequate training, and continual support for the entire Daniel community in the classroom, at school, and at home.
The Daniel Elementary technology plan will facilitate interaction with the public regarding our current and future endeavors. Our Community Computers at the Family Learning Center are a means toward this end. Also, see our Student Projects page, including our tribute to the Kent School District School Board.
Members of the Daniel staff and technology committee will seek out resources for technology needs by pursuing grants, planning appropriate uses for state and district funds, securing a building budget, soliciting PTA and other donations, and building coalitions with the business community.
The Daniel Elementary technology plan will develop coalitions with: members of the Daniel Community, businesses, institutions of higher education, other schools (both inside and outside the Kent School District).
If you are affiliated with a business and would like to be involved in our school's technology, please contact Daniel Elementary at 373-2255 or e-mail our technology specialist. We would love to have your input.
