In the late 1970's, increasing Kent School District enrollment created the demand for an additional elementary school, as a result, Spring Glen Elementary School was leased from the nearby Renton School District. In 1987, Spring Glen became a magnet elementary school for the Kent School District offering all day Kindergarten and innovative programs based upon our Voyager Beliefs. Initially, students were selected for enrollment on a first come, first served basis. As the popularity of the school grew, a lottery for kindergarten attendance and waiting lists for each grade level were developed. In October of 1994, the Kent School District Board of Directors determined that a new school would be built within the district boundaries to replace Spring Glen. The lease was allowed to expire and a new school was built to house former Spring Glen and additional neighborhood students. As a result, Glenridge Elementary School was opened in the fall of 1996. Glenridge Elementary School opened its doors with great expectations on August 28, 1996. Guided by a caring staff and supportive parents, over 320 students from Spring Glen Elementary School, a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, joined with 330 students from a newly defined boundary area to form an exciting learning community. Our vision of excellence is created through a strong partnership between home and school and is sustained by a commitment to high academic standards for all of our students.
