A
teacher from 2001 Emerald ParkIntroduction:
We live in a community. The Pilgrims also lived in a community. What are the parts that make up your community? What was the Pilgrim community like? How are these communities the same and different? We will be exploring and comparing our community and the Pilgrim's community.
Tasks:Create a poster display containing five objects representing your community. Each object should have a paragraph explaining its significance in your community.
Pretend you are a pilgrim child and write about a day in your life.
Create a "double bubble" map comparing your community with the pilgrim community.
Process:Visit the Community Scavenger Hunt site. Choose five things from the list that you will include on your display. These five things should represent parts of the community that are important to you. You will then need to write a paragraph describing each item, explaining its place in the community and how it is important to you. Place each item on a poster board display board with the paragraph explaining it placed next to it.
Research the Pilgrim community by visiting the sites listed below. Decide whether you will be a boy or girl pilgrim and then write about your day. Be sure to include the following information.
- your name
- your age
- your parents' names and jobs
- chores you do
- foods you eat
- ways you interact with the community

For the A Day in the Life of a Pilgrim writing, we will use the Pilgrim Day Writing Rubric.
Conclusion:When you have completed these activites, you should have a better understanding of what a community is and how your community compares with the Pilgrim's community in the past.
